The Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL) and Mediacorp 8world have developed a series of videos titled "News in Class" (乐学课堂) to enhance the teaching and learning of Chinese among secondary school students through the use of current affairs. This new resource was launched at the awards ceremony of the inaugural Young Reporter News Challenge ("我来报新闻"挑战赛) on 30 July 2022. Minister of State for Education and Chairperson of the CPCLL, Ms Gan Siow Huang, officiated the launch as Guest of Honour at the event.

2. Hosted by news anchor Ms Zhang Haijie, "News in Class" features short clips that teaches Chinese vocabulary with hanyu pinyin, and promotes classroom discussions on current affairs. The videos are designed to cater to secondary school students with varying levels of Chinese proficiency and are available for access at https://www.8world.com/so-young/news-in-class.

3. Jointly organised by CPCLL, Mediacorp 8world and the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language, the Young Reporter News Challenge aims to develop students' interest and ability to communicate and present in Mandarin, as well as to broaden their knowledge on news reporting techniques. 22 school teams have emerged as winners after competing in categories that challenged their ability to produce a news clip on current affairs, or to conduct news analysis on a designated topic. The winning teams received their awards from MOS Gan at the event. (Please refer to the Annex for the full list of winners).
