Diploma in Education (DipEd)
4. Compulsory Contract Teaching Stint
The final part of the process for entry into the Diploma in Education (DipEd) programme is a compulsory stint as a contract teacher in a school. During this stint, the school will assess your suitability for teaching.
The stint will also allow you to:
- Try out the profession and experience the work day of a teacher.
- Confirm your interest in teaching.
- Gain valuable practical experience before you enrol at the National Institute of Education (NIE).
You will get the opportunity to do the following:
- Classroom teaching of subject(s).
- Assist with CCA and school activities.
- Learn how to communicate with parents effectively.
- Find out about the roles and responsibilities of a form teacher.
You will be guided by a mentor during your Contract Teaching Stint and supported by the school as you embark on your teaching journey.
The Contract Teaching Stint generally lasts at least 4 months, and will continue until your enrolment into NIE.
