Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
4. Compulsory Contract Teaching Stint
The final part of the process for entry into the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programme is a compulsory stint as a contract teacher in a school. During this stint, the school will assess your suitability for teaching.
The stint will also allow you to:
- Try out the profession and experience the work day of a teacher
- Confirm your interest in teaching
- Gain valuable practical experience before you enrol into the National Institute of Education (NIE)
You will get the opportunity to do the following:
- Classroom teaching of subject(s)
- Assist with CCA and school activities
- Learn how to communicate with parents effectively
- Find out about the roles and responsibilities of a form teacher
You will be guided by a mentor during your Contract Teaching Stint and supported by the school as you embark on your teaching journey.
The Contract Teaching Stint generally lasts at least 4 months, and will continue until your enrolment into NIE.
