1. Overview

If you would like to be a School Counsellor but do not have the relevant qualifications, you can apply through our sponsored foundational training programme. The programme will equip you with the necessary skills to support our students with their social and emotional needs.

Programme length: 8-month sponsored training.

Bond length: 2 years.

Requirements

  • Passion and disposition to work with students-at-risk.
  • Empathy for students with social, emotional and mental health difficulties.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Aware of and sensitive to multicultural issues.
  • Resourceful and resilient.
  • Preferably with at least 1 year of working experience. Experience working or volunteering with children or youths would be an advantage.
Note: While the School Counsellor role is a rewarding one, it also comes with expectations and demands at work. Applicants should have the fitness and resilience required to engage students safely and carry out their duties effectively. As part of application processing, candidates may be required to undergo a pre-employment medical examination.

Compulsory Untrained School Stint

Prior to admission into the foundational training programme, you would need to undertake a compulsory school stint. The stint allows you to affirm your interest in school counselling, and lets us assess your suitability for the role. If you successfully complete the stint, you will be enrolled in the foundational training programme.

You will receive a monthly salary while undergoing the Untrained School Stint in school and if enrolled, during the foundational training programme as well.
