Bachelor of Arts/Science (Academic Discipline & Education) Programme
1. Overview
The Bachelor of Arts/Science (Academic Discipline & Education) is a 4-year sponsored Double Major undergraduate programme. It equips you with an academic degree in arts or science-based subjects, with a teaching qualification to teach in primary or secondary schools.
Graduands will receive a Bachelor of Arts/Science (Academic Discipline & Education) jointly conferred by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National Institute of Education (NIE).
Programme length: 4 years
Bond length: 4 years
Deployment
You will be deployed to teach at either the primary or secondary level upon graduation.
Over the course of your career, there may be opportunities for you to be re-assigned to teach at another level (for example, primary instead of secondary) depending on organisational requirements or individual career aspirations. We will provide you with the necessary training to prepare you for the new role.
Requirements
Only recipients of the MOE Teaching Scholarships or Teaching Award will be able to gain admission into the Bachelor of Arts/Science (Academic Discipline & Education) Programme. Therefore, interested candidates should also apply for the MOE Teaching Scholarships/Award (Full-Term).
You will need to have one of the following qualifications before applying for the Bachelor of Arts/Science (Academic Discipline & Education) Programme:
- GCE A-Level
- Polytechnic Diploma
- IB Diploma
- NUS High School Diploma
- Other equivalent qualifications
NTU-NIE Teaching Scholars Programme (TSP)
The TSP is a four-year programme that augments the Bachelor of Arts/Science (Academic Discipline & Education) programme. Students placed on the TSP can look forward to a wide range of education-related and overseas developmental opportunities.

From AY2025/2026 onwards, MOE will sponsor more individuals with interest and aptitude for teaching in MOE schools to join the BABSc Double Major programme. Some of these individuals will be offered placement in the NTU-NIE Teaching Scholars Programme (TSP) from the start. Other TA holders who do well in the BABSc programme may be offered placement in the TSP after Semester 1 of their second year of study, subject to them meeting the prevailing qualifying criteria for the TSP.
