Tamil Language Teacher Training Sponsorship

Tamil Language Teacher Training Sponsorship

Are you passionate about Tamil Language (TL)? Do you want to inspire the next generation of young minds? If so, take up the Tamil Language Teacher Training Sponsorship (TLTTS) with MOE.

The TLTTS is a 3 to 4-year sponsored programme for O-Level holders who aspire to become Tamil Language teachers in our primary schools or MOE Kindergartens.

For a start, you will enrol into the Diploma in Tamil Studies with Early Education (TSE) programme at Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) for the first 3 years.

After you complete the Diploma in TSE, you can either:

  • Apply to teach TL at a primary school, or
  • Teach at an MOE Kindergarten.

If you meet the requirements to teach in a primary school, you will enrol into the 1-year Diploma in Education (Primary) (Tamil Language) programme at the National Institute of Education (NIE). This will equip you with the pedagogical skills and teaching strategies to be a TL teacher in a primary school.

Good performing students may also be offered the opportunity to cross over to the NTU-NIE Bachelor of Arts (Academic Discipline & Education) degree programme.

The TTS application window will tentatively open in January 2025.

Sponsorship benefits and teaching bond

MOE will sponsor the tuition fees for your studies at NP and NIE. To further support you during your studies, you will also receive:

  • A monthly allowance of $800 during your studies at NP.
  • A gross monthly salary of $2,900 during your final year at NIE, if you are selected for the Diploma in Education (Primary) (Tamil Language) programme.

If you are selected for the Diploma in Education (Primary) (Tamil Language) programme, you will serve a 5-year bond as a Tamil Language teacher at a primary school after your NIE training.

If you choose to teach in an MOE Kindergarten upon graduation from NP, you will serve a 3-year bond as a Tamil Language teacher at an MOE Kindergarten.

Requirements

  • Be a Singapore citizen or Singapore permanent resident.
  • Have a strong passion for the language.
  • Have completed your GCE O-Level examinations, or equivalent.
  • Meet NP’s course admission criteria.
