Overview
Eligible international students in Singapore can receive Service Obligation grant for selected postgraduate research courses in Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore and Singapore Management University.
The Service Obligation grant is only awarded to eligible international students who have not received subsidy, sponsorship, scholarship from the Singapore Government to obtain a postgraduate degree qualification.
In addition, the grant amount (inclusive of GST) that you will receive depends on your course of study.
Course of study
You may apply for Service Obligation grant if you meet the eligibility criteria and after you are enrolled in selected postgraduate research courses in these autonomous universities:
- Nanyang Technological University
- National University of Singapore
- Singapore Management University
The award of Service Obligation grant is competitive and based on merit.
Grant amount
If you application is successful, you will receive the Service Obligation grant.
Refer to your student bill or check with your institution on the grant amount (inclusive of GST).
Bond obligation
You must work full-time for 3 years with a valid work pass in a Singapore entity upon graduation. Learn about the acceptable types of employment.
- If you withdraw from a course or have been terminated from it, you are liable for liquidated damages.
- If you are awarded a scholarship during your studies, you may not be eligible for the Service Obligation grant and may be required to pay liquidated damages for the grant received. Please check with your institution.
- If you have obtained Singapore Permanent Residency, please inform your institution. You will be billed Singapore Permanent Residency fees and do not need to serve a bond.
