In today's fast-evolving business landscape, several factors - including the rapid advancement of digital technology, the green transition, and the ageing of the workforce - are reshaping the nature of work while creating new opportunities. To capitalise on these developments, individuals must be equipped with the necessary skills to support their career progression over time.
The SkillsFuture movement supports Singaporeans to develop their skills throughout life and remain relevant and competitive long after graduation.
It is not just about having the right paper qualifications and being good at what you do currently. Rather, it is about having a mindset of lifelong learning, continually acquiring the skills to keep up with changing needs, and striving towards greater excellence through knowledge, application, and experience.
So, are you ready to step up and level-up your future?
What initiatives and resources are available for me to pursue lifelong learning?
SkillsFuture is an intrinsic part of everyone's career journey. No matter your life stage – schooling years, early career, mid-career or in your silver years – there are a variety of initiatives and resources to support you in mastering the skills needed to have a fulfilling and resilient career.
Step 1: Identify What Skills to Hone
A broad range of resources is available to help you understand how the jobs and skills demands are changing, and guide you in identifying your skills needs based on career goals and aspirations.
For example, SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) regularly shares insights on in-demand skills in the Singapore economy through the annual Skills Demand for the Future Economy report and conducts free SkillsFuture Advice workshops and one-to-one consultations with Skills Ambassadors. You can also visit the MySkillsFuture portal, a one stop portal of information and tools, to help you make informed decisions on training options regardless of your career stage or pathways.
Step 2: Sign Up for the Right Course
Once you have identified your skills needs, you can tap on a myriad of initiatives to equip yourself with in-demand skills, such as the SkillsFuture Series. The SkillsFuture Series is a curated list of short, industry-relevant training programmes that focuses on emerging skills in the Care, Digital, Green and Industry 4.0 economic pillars. If you are a mid-career worker looking for a career switch into growth sectors, SSG also offers the SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme that will support you in acquiring industry-relevant skills to improve employability and pivot to new sectors or job roles.
On the MySkillsFuture portal, you can view more than 20,000 SkillsFuture Credit eligible courses on the Course Directory and find the most suitable course for you. You can also get tips and advice to help in your career planning and development through the portal.
Step 3: Get Funding Support
To help you offset training fees, the Government provides substantive financial support for eligible courses. Eligible individuals will receive Course Fee Funding (as shown in the table below) of up to 90% of course fees for SSG-approved courses. Singaporeans can also use their SkillsFuture Credit base tier of $500 and/or SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career) top-up of $4,000 to further defray out-of-pocket course fees.
Please visit www.skillsfuture.gov.sg/funding-individuals for more info on course fee subsidies.
