Question
To ask the Minister for Education what are the age-appropriate basic first aid skills and first aid awareness taught in primary schools presently.
Response
1. In primary schools, students are first introduced to the importance and skills of first aid treatment at Upper Primary levels. They learn basic first aid skills like the procedures for treating minor cuts and minor burns. They are also taught how to identify signs and symptoms of a cardiac arrest and to call for help in the event that someone suffers a cardiac arrest. These lessons are incorporated in the Physical Education (PE) curriculum for all primary schools.
2. The importance of first aid during an emergency is reinforced through stories in SGSecure resources shared with schools.
