Mr Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap, Aljunied GRC

Question

To ask the Minister for Education in light of the revised PSLE scoring system in 2021 which uses scoring bands (Achievement Levels), what is the required benchmark that madrasahs have to attain for each cohort in order to be allowed to continue taking in primary one pupils.

Response

1. The basis of the benchmark for madrasahs remains unchanged under the new PSLE scoring system, which was implemented in 2021. It is pegged to the average PSLE Score of Malay pupils taking four Standard-level subjects in the six lowest-performing national primary schools.

2. All madrasahs with PSLE candidates met the benchmark in 2021 and may continue admitting Primary 1 students.
