Question
To ask the Minister for Education with regard to the current and projected rise in temperatures (a) whether there is a discernible rise in students getting heatstroke or heat injury in the past six months; and (b) whether the Ministry will consider mandating schedules for regular hydration breaks for students throughout the school day.
Response
1. There was no significant trend in students getting heat injuries between November 2023 and April 2024. One heat-related incident was reported during this period. The student has since recovered after 4 days of medical leave.
2. Schools encourage students to keep themselves hydrated throughout the day but do not mandate schedules for hydration breaks. Students are taught to cultivate good hydration habits and drink regularly to keep hydrated.
