Question

To ask the Minister for Education (a) when was the last time the Ministry increased the grants extended to the provision of Non-Tamil Indian Languages through the Board of Teaching and Testing of South Asian Languages; and (b) when will the Ministry undertake a review of sufficiency of such grants in future.

Response

1. MOE last increased funding for Non-Tamil Indian Language (NTIL) instruction in 2017.

2. MOE reviews our funding regularly to support the provision of quality instruction to meet the learning needs of our students. We last reviewed our funding in 2022 and assessed it to be adequate.
