Minister for Education to Visit France and United Kingdom

1. Minister for Education, Mr Ong Ye Kung, will be in France for the G7 Education Ministers Meeting, and then in the United Kingdom for a working trip, between 4 and 8 July.

2. Singapore is one of three countries invited to the G7 Education Ministers Meeting - the others being Argentina and Estonia. At the meeting, Minister Ong will participate in a roundtable discussion and exchange ideas with other Education Ministers on early childhood education as a means to combat social inequality, and quality teacher training as a prerequisite for improving educational standards.

3. While in France, Minister Ong will also attend a National Day Reception organised by the Singapore Embassy. In the United Kingdom, Minister Ong will visit institutes of higher learning. He will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Education.
