To celebrate schools' effective, sustained and innovative efforts in uplifting their students, the Lee Hsien Loong Award for Innovations in Uplifting Students (LHL AIUS) will be inaugurated next year. The LHL AIUS seeks to recognise schools that engender a strong culture of care and inclusivity and help students with greater needs, which are crucial steps in our collective journey towards improving social mobility and addressing social inequality in the long run.
2. The LHL AIUS replaces the current Lee Hsien Loong Award for Innovations in the Normal Course (LHL AIN), which was first given out in 2009 to recognise schools that have implemented innovative practices and raised the quality of education in the Normal Course. Since students with greater needs are enrolled in all our schools, therefore all primary and secondary schools will be eligible for the new award.
3. The key differences of the LHL AIN and the LHL AIUS are listed in the table below:
LHL AIN | LHL AIUS | |
---|---|---|
Eligible schools | Secondary schools that offer both Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical) Courses (Total: 111 schools) |
All primary and secondary schools (Total: 339 schools) |
Target students | Normal Course students | Students from low income families, at-risk students and learners requiring educational support |
Award Criteria | Schools are evaluated based on their innovation efforts in the Normal Course; and the sustainability of these innovation efforts | Schools would be evaluated based on their effective, sustained and innovative efforts in catering to the needs of the target students |
Award details | $3000 and a trophy |
