206 Special Awards Given Out to Recognise Our Students' Holistic Achievements

1. This year, 206 Special Awards were given out to recognise students' diverse achievements in both academic and non-academic spheres, including their contributions to the community.
2. Minister for Education, Mr Chan Chun Sing, addressed the award recipients at the Special Awards Presentation Ceremony on 24 August 2021. In view of the ongoing COVID-19 precautionary measures, the award ceremony was held virtually for the first time this year. Principals, teachers, and parents attended the virtual ceremony to support the recipients.
3. A total of 1941 students from 80 education institutions2 received awards from the following categories:
- The Prime Minister's Book Prize (40 recipients)
- The Lee Kuan Yew Award for All-Round Excellence (22 recipients)
- The Lee Kuan Yew Award for Mathematics and Science (47 recipients)
- The Lee Kuan Yew Award for Outstanding Normal Course Students (10 recipients)
- The Lee Kuan Yew Exemplary Student Award (28 recipients)
- The Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship to Encourage Upgrading (25 recipients)
- The Lee Hsien Loong Award for Outstanding All-Round Achievement (4 recipients)
- The Lee Hsien Loong Award for Outstanding Bicultural Students (4 recipients)
- The Lee Hsien Loong Award for Special Achievement (2 recipients)
- The Lee Hsien Loong Interactive Digital Media Smart Nation Award (18 recipients)
- The Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Book Prize (6 recipients3)

There are six students who are multiple award recipients. They are Indra Dermawan Bin Yuhanis, who received the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship to Encourage Upgrading, the Lee Hsien Loong Award for Outstanding All-Round Achievement and the Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Book Prize; Liu Jiahui, who received the Prime Minister’s Book Prize and the Lee Hsien Loong Award for Outstanding Bicultural Students; Ryan Lucas Ho Shi Chang, who received the Lee Kuan Yew Award for Mathematics and Science and the Lee Hsien Loong Interactive Digital Media Smart Nation Award; Sim Jin Herng, who received the Prime Minister’s Book Prize and the Lee Kuan Yew Award for Mathematics and Science; Tham Yun Xin, who received the Prime Minister’s Book Prize and the Lee Kuan Yew Award for Mathematics and Science; and Viyshnatulasiy D/O G Manivannen, who received the Lee Kuan Yew Award for Mathematics and Science and the Lee Hsien Loong Award for Outstanding All-Round Achievement.

These institutions include 18 SPED schools, 19 primary schools, 27 secondary schools, seven junior colleges, five polytechnics, three ITE colleges, and the National University of Singapore.

All six recipients are also recipients of the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship to Encourage Upgrading.
