News Press Releases

More than 10,000 students aged 13 to 20 from 25 Singapore education institutions will be participating in the third edition of the 'EU at Your School' project (#EUatYourSchool), where they will learn more about the European Union (EU) and its relations with Singapore. The project, which will see the highest number of student participants since its inception in 2019, will run from 25 March to 22 July 2022.

2. Ambassadors and diplomats from the EU and its Member States will visit education institutions over the next four months to give talks about the EU, focusing on topics including the role of the EU today, post-pandemic recovery, and key global trends such as climate change, environmental sustainability and digitalisation. The project supports efforts by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to promote 21st Century Competencies through the development of global awareness and cross-cultural skills among our students and instilling in them an appreciation of different cultures and languages by introducing them to the rich and diverse cultures of Europe.

3. At the opening session today, H.E. Iwona Piórko, European Union Ambassador to Singapore interacted with students at Queensway Secondary School and learned more about the school's environment and sustainability initiatives. This included Queensway Secondary School's on-going work with National Junior College on sustainable food production.

4. Ambassador Piórko said: "This is an important visit for me. I am grateful to the Ministry of Education, students, teachers, and principals and fellow Ambassadors for their support. We talked about global recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic - we need ever more the drive, vision and ideas that only youth can offer to help us create a greener, more digital and inclusive future. 'EU at Your School' is a project that allows us to do just that in Singapore."

5. On how students will benefit from the project, Director-General of Education, Mr Wong Siew Hoong, said: "I am heartened by the sustained interest from our schools and students in participating in the third run of this project. MOE is glad to support this EU initiative, which complements our ongoing efforts to develop greater global awareness and cross-cultural skills in our students."
