As part of the Ministry of Education's (MOE) planned expansion to provide parents with more choices for quality and affordable pre-school places, three new MOE Kindergartens (MKs) will be opening in 2026 and 2027, bringing the total number of MKs to 60 thus far, with 43 in operation and 171 that will open between 2023 and 2027.

2. The three new MKs are MK@Pioneer (in 2026), MK@Rivervale (in 2027) and MK@Townsville (in 2027). More details are in Table 1. All three MKs are sited within primary schools and will offer about 120 to 200 K1 places each. The MOE Kindergarten Experience

4. The MK curriculum is designed by pre-school specialists to nurture children holistically to be confident, possess strong social skills and have a good foundation in literacy and numeracy. All MKs offer the three Mother Tongue Languages (MTLs) – Chinese, Malay and Tamil – to encourage bilingualism in the early years and help lay a strong foundation for language learning in the later years. MK students will also enjoy priority admission to the primary school that the MK is located within4, and benefit from a smooth transition from Kindergarten to Primary 1 within the same environment.

5. For parents who require a full-day care service for their child, Kindergarten Care (KCare) services are available in all MKs from Mondays to Fridays, 7am to 7pm, including the school holidays.

6. More information about MKs can be found at https://www.moe.gov.sg/mk.

Footnotes
  1. There will be seven new MKs opening in 2023, five new MKs in 2024, two new MKs in 2025, one new MK in 2026 and two new MKs in 2027.

  2. MOE had earlier announced that the merged Pioneer Primary School would be relocated to a new school site in Tengah in January 2025 (https://www.moe.gov.sg/news/press-releases/20210407-school-mergers). Due to manpower constraints in the construction sector, a longer construction period and disruptions in the supply of construction materials caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing global geo-political developments, the relocation will now be completed in 2026 instead.

  3. For MK@Pioneer opening in 2026, the registration exercise will take place in February 2025, and be open to Singapore Citizen (SC) and Permanent Resident (PR) children born between 2 January 2021 and 1 January 2022 (both dates inclusive). For the MKs opening in 2027, the registration exercise will take place in February 2026, and be open to SC and PR children born between 2 January 2022 and 1 January 2023 (both dates inclusive).

  4. MK children are eligible for priority admission to the primary school that the MK is located within under Phase 2A in the Primary 1 (P1) Registration Exercise. Like all children who may be eligible for priority admissions, placement into that primary school is not guaranteed and depends on the number of applicants and vacancies at the school during the P1 Registration Exercise.
