News Press Releases

Close to 360 students from 14 secondary schools embarked on a virtual tour to learn more about Singapore's culturally significant landmarks in Bukit Pasoh and Chinatown, such as the Siong Leng Musical Association, Sri Mariamman Temple and the Masjid Jamae, at this year's Cultural Heritage Walk (走出校园,走进文化) event on Saturday, 6 August 2022. (See Annex A for list of participating schools).

2. Ms Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State for Education and Chairperson of the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL), graced the virtual event as Guest-Of-Honour. In her opening speech, MOS Gan encouraged students to deepen their understanding of Singapore's multicultural heritage, and develop their interest in Chinese language and culture.

3. Jointly organised by the CPCLL and Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations, the Cultural Heritage Walk aims to encourage students to further understand Singapore's history, and appreciate our multicultural heritage. In this year's event, students teamed up to explore nine virtual stations that each depict a cultural site, and participated in quizzes to test their historical and cultural knowledge. (See Annex B for list of cultural sites and Annex C for screenshots from virtual stations).
