Minister Chan Chun Sing to Visit Jakarta, Indonesia (18 to 19 October 2022)

Minister for Education, Mr Chan Chun Sing, will visit Jakarta, Indonesia from 18 to 19 October 2022, in his capacity as the President of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) Council.

2. During his visit, Minister Chan will meet Indonesia's Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Mr Nadiem Anwar Makarim, and other Cabinet members. Minister Chan will also visit the SEAMEO Regional Open Learning Centre (SEAMOLEC) to learn more about its efforts in advancing open learning and distance education in Southeast Asia, as well as the Universitas Indonesia for a dialogue session with its students.

3. The SEAMEO was formed in 1965 to promote co-operation among Southeast Asian nations through education, science and culture. Singapore assumed Presidency of the SEAMEO Council in 2021 for a two-year term.

4. Minister Chan will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Education.
