Five Teachers Lauded for Contributions Towards Teaching and Learning of Malay Language

Five Malay Language teachers received the Arif Budiman Malay Language Teacher Award this year in recognition of their outstanding contributions in the teaching and learning of the Malay Language. The finalists and winners received their awards from Minister for Education Mr Chan Chun Sing, who was Guest-of-Honour at the event.

2. Now in its 16th year, the Awards have recognised a total of 69 primary, secondary and pre-university Malay Language teachers. The Awards are presented in two categories: the Role Model Category for teachers with 10 years or more of teaching service, and the Motivation Category for teachers with less than 10 years of teaching service.

3. All Malay Language teachers in local mainstream schools are eligible to be nominated for the award, based on their performance and contributions from 2020 to 2021. Students, teachers, parents, school leaders and members of the public were encouraged to take part in the nomination. The awardees were selected by the panel of judges comprising of community leaders, academics from institutions of higher learning, school leaders and representatives from the media. This year, 344 nominations for 160 teachers were received between February to April 2022.

The Arif Budiman Malay Language Teacher Award is jointly organised by the Malay Language Council Singapore, Malay Language Teachers Association, Berita Harian, and the Malay Language Learning and Promotion Committee (MLLPC).
