Budding Scriptwriters Recognised at Chinese Radio Drama Scriptwriting Competition

Winning scripts to be developed into radio drama for broadcast
31 students from ten schools were recognised for their creativity and proficiency in scriptwriting at the annual "Script it Right" Chinese Radio Drama Script Writing Competition Awards Ceremony ("与声剧来"中文广播剧创作比赛). At the event, guest-of-Honour Ms Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State for Education and Chairperson of the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL), delivered a speech and presented awards to the winning teams.
2. Jointly organised by the CPCLL and local radio station UFM100.3, the annual competition aims to promote the learning of Chinese language in a fun and interactive way. This year, participants could choose to develop their scripts based on the selected theme (特定主题: 向世界出发), dialogue (预设对白:在时间的大钟上,只有两个字 – 现在), or sound effect (特选音效:敲门声)1.
3. A total of 724 students from 48 educational institutions submitted 305 entries. 12 teams were selected for the Outstanding Script Award (优秀剧本奖) and the Creative Script Award (创意剧本奖). UFM100.3 has developed the seven winning entries of the Outstanding Script Award into radio dramas to be broadcast from July to August this year. Please refer to the Annex for the list of winners.

In the lead up to the competition, around 950 students had the opportunity to participate in a series of eight radio drama scriptwriting workshops held between February and May 2023, and 55 students took part in the voice talent training camp and learnt various voice training techniques from UFM100.3 DJs Xin Ying, Wei Long, Cheng Yao, Kemin, as well as Young People's Performing Arts Ensemble's Artist Director Ms Ma Gyap Sen. About 90 teachers participated in workshops on teaching strategies related to radio drama and script writing conducted by theatre practitioner Mr Tung Ka Wai, as well as advertising, which was led by advertising professional Mr Norman Tan and 96.3FM DJ De Ming.
