Last Updated: 22 Jun 2023

News Press Releases

More than 250 students from 37 secondary schools participated in the second National Chinese Riddle Competition (全国中学生灯谜比赛) on Saturday 24 June 2023. Jointly organised by the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL), Tung Ann District Guild, Riddle Association (Singapore) and Hwa Chong Institution, the competition aims to instil a love for Chinese language and culture in students through traditional Lantern Riddles.

2. Guest-of-Honour Ms Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State for Education and Chairperson of the CPCLL, delivered a speech at the event, which saw participants compete in a pen-and-paper quiz before the top ten groups in the Higher Chinese and Chinese category emerged to compete in a live quiz. The words to be guessed were aligned with what the students learnt in the curriculum. Please refer to the Annex for the list of participating schools.

3. In the lead up to the competition, 230 students from 31 schools took part in a Chinese Riddle Workshop to learn riddle-solving techniques and gain a deeper appreciation for traditional Lantern Riddles.
