25 Preschool Teachers Recognised for Using Storytelling Aids to Cultivate Love for Chinese Language Learning

Close to 1,000 preschool Chinese Language (CL) teachers participated in the Seminar for Preschool Chinese Language Teachers 2023 at Republic Polytechnic on 8 July 2023, with the theme "Reflecting on Teaching Practices in Preschools" ("幼儿园课程教学实践与反思"). Organised by the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL) and supported by the Early Childhood Development Agency and the National Institute of Early Childhood Development, the annual seminar serves as a platform for CL preschool teachers to enhance their teaching skills and grow their professional support network.

At the event, Minister of State for Education and Chairperson of the CPCLL, Ms Gan Siow Huang, and Mr Xie Yao Quan, Member of Parliament of Jurong GRC and Leader of CPCLL Preschool Group, presented awards to the top three groups of winners for the annual Storytelling Aids Competition for Preschool Chinese Language Teachers 2023 (2023年学前华文教师故事教具制作比赛). The competition aims to motivate preschool CL teachers to engage pre-schoolers and inculcate in them an interest in learning CL through creative storytelling.
3. The winning entries were selected from 220 proposals received between March and April this year. Entries of all 16 finalist teams were showcased at Republic Polytechnic and can be viewed online at: https://www.cpcllpreschseminar2023.sg. See Annex for the list of winning teams.
4. Participants at the seminar attended keynote lectures and concurrent sharing sessions conducted by local and overseas early childhood experts. They also attended professional sharing sessions conducted by past award recipients from the Outstanding Preschool Mother Tongue Language Teacher Award and Storytelling Aids Competition for Preschool Chinese Language Teachers.
