3. Art education in primary school aims to provide a strong foundation for students to understand art as a way of learning about themselves and the world around them.
4. Building upon the 2018 Primary Art Teaching and Learning Syllabus, the 2024 Primary Art Teaching and Learning Syllabus has been refreshed in tandem with the evolving global and education landscape, and to strengthen the development of 21st Century Competencies (21CC) in students. It continues to place emphasis on building students' capacity to enjoy art and aims to develop in students the competencies and dispositions of an active artist and an informed audience.
5. Key changes of the 2024 Primary Art Teaching and Learning Syllabus include:
- The syllabus content, which outlines the knowledge, skills and values that students will acquire over the six years in primary school, will be refreshed to cover a wider range of media, themes and topics that allow deeper engagement and interdisciplinary learning.
- The range of artworks by local and international artists in the syllabus will be further curated and organised according to themes, to allow teachers to engage students in deeper inquiry and learning of specific art concepts.
- Guidance for art teachers and curriculum resources will be co-developed with industry experts to provide structured and elevated experiences to develop and hone students' 21CC.
- Guidance and support on the use of technology will also be provided to support schools in implementing blended core learning experiences to students.
