More Than 2,300 Students Showcase Chinese Text Recital Skills in Annual Competition

A record of over 2,300 students from 270 primary and secondary schools submitted more than 1,400 video entries for the annual National Text Recital Competition.

This year, the competition was extended to secondary school students taking Chinese Language 'B', Basic Chinese, and those who are on the Chinese Special Programme to provide them with a platform to showcase their learning and boost their confidence in using Chinese actively beyond the classroom. 103 students emerged as award winners based on judging criteria such as vocal articulation, fluency and stage presence (See Annex for full list of award winners).

3. Guest-of-Honour Ms Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State for Education and Chairperson of the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL), delivered a speech and presented awards to the student winners at the event.

4. In the lead up to the competition, over 700 students participated in a virtual workshop conducted by the Singapore Chinese Teachers Literary Recital Society to learn recitation techniques. More than 60 teachers also participated in a workshop conducted by a veteran MediaCorp presenter, where they learnt ways to improve their students' recitation skills.

5. Organised by the CPCLL, in collaboration with Anderson Primary School, Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School and the Singapore Chinese Teachers Literary Recital Society, the competition aims to raise students' Chinese reading proficiency, and deepen their understanding and appreciation of the connotations, rhythm and beauty of the Chinese language.
