Launch of Project 'Orang Singapura' & Grant Call for Story Books to Promote Local Cultural Heritage and Literature

The Malay Language Learning and Promotion Committee (MLLPC) launched a new initiative titled Project 'Orang Singapura' and a grant call for the publication of Malay Language story books on Saturday, 28 October 2023. Guest-of-Honour Dr Maliki Osman, Second Minister for Education delivered a speech at the launch event.

2. Commissioned by the MLLPC, Project 'Orang Singapura' aims to promote the learning and appreciation of Singapore's cultural heritage. It comprises a compilation of 10 songs by the late Mr Zubir Said, one of Singapore's key musical figures and composer of the national anthem, which have been rearranged by local music producer Reyza Hamizan of 6 Strings Studio, and sung by talented local artists including Suryana Norddin, Hanie Bella, Syah Riszuan and Reyza Hamizan. The compilation will be distributed to schools and Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs).

3. The grant call for the publication of Malay Language story books aims to increase the number of quality reading materials for students that reflect Singapore's local context and culture. Interested applicants can apply for the grant at http://www.mllpc.sg by 15 December 2023. Successful applicants will be notified by the MLLPC in January 2024. The published story books will be distributed to all primary and secondary schools, as well as IHLs by December 2024.
