News Press Releases

Eight Singapore students competed against more than 1,700 students from 67 countries, regions, and territories at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF)1 2024. The Singapore delegation clinched nine awards, the most since Singapore's first participation in ISEF in 2001.

2. In total, four individual projects and two team projects2 were submitted to ISEF, which was held in person in Los Angeles, California, USA, from 11 to 17 May 2024. The students exchanged ideas and insights with young scientists from all over the world and gained valuable experience.

3. Our students demonstrated their keen ability to grasp and apply STEM concepts through research, and developed innovative solutions for real-world challenges. Mr Cai Junxiang from National Junior College and Mr Aidan Ong from Hwa Chong Institution developed new computer models which can handle data at a larger scale, and identify trends more accurately. Their project obtained three awards, which is the most number of awards won by a team project from Singapore at the ISEF. Mr Gedeon Kusuma Ang from Raffles Institution developed a highly space-efficient urban farming system for installation in homes and offices, using the strengths of additive manufacturing and innovative design.

4. The Ministry of Education (MOE), the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), and Science Centre Singapore congratulate them on their strong performance at this year's fair. The award-winning projects are as follows (details in Annex A):
