New "Xin Kong Xia 2024" Album Showcases Students' Musical Talent Through Chinese Songs

《新空下2024》学生创作歌曲合辑新闻发布会

1. The Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL) has released an album featuring 13 original songs composed by student winners from the 2024 National Schools Xinyao Singing and Songwriting Competition. Titled "Xin Kong Xia 2024", the album was launched today by Minister of State for Education and Chairperson of the CPCLL, Ms Gan Siow Huang, at the National Schools Xinyao festival. The annual festival aims to promote xinyao as a vital part of our cultural heritage, and deepen students' understanding and appreciation of the Chinese language and culture.

2. The "Xin Kong Xia 2024" album features《他们说》, 《最爱》 and 《远亲不如近邻》, which were respectively the winning entries of the Songwriting (Open) category, Lyrics Writing category and Songwriting (Creative) category from last year's competition. These songs have been produced into music videos that premiered at this year's Xinyao festival. All 13 winning songs and three music videos are now available on the CPCLL's website at https://www.cpcll.sg/xinkongxia/2024.

Jointly organised by the CPCLL, TCR Music Station, Lianhe Zaobao and Jurong Pioneer Junior College, the National Schools Xinyao Singing and Songwriting Competition 2025 will be open to students from secondary schools, junior colleges, Millennia Institute, Institutes of Technical Education, polytechnics, and autonomous universities. Registration for the competition will open from 31 March 2025. Students can look forward to attending a one-and-a-half-day music camp to hone their songwriting techniques, singing, and performance skills, as well as participate in music appreciation sessions. This year, students will also be able to choose and vote for their favourite "Xin Kong Xia" songs from the past decade's compilations on SPH's website.

4. The Xinyao Singing and Songwriting Competition 2025 and "Xin Kong Xia 2024" song compilation are part of the Xin Kong Xia National Schools Xinyao Festival 2025.
