Applied Subjects
Learn about the Applied Subjects where students from some secondary schools are given the opportunity to engage in specific fields of applied study.
What is Applied Subjects
Applied subjects cater to students who have the interest and aptitude for specific fields of applied study. Students can offer MOE G3 Applied Subjects (MOE AS) and G1 MOE-ITE Applied Subjects (MOE-ITE AS) as part of their upper secondary subject offerings.
Your child's interests may affect their school choice, as some subjects are only offered in certain schools.
MOE Applied Subjects
Students will learn the knowledge and skills needed to solve real-world problems with computers. The focus will be on the development and application of computational thinking skills to formulate computing solutions.
Computing is offered at G1, G2 and G3.
Where to take it
Students will learn drama through practical and theoretical study. They will devise, analyse performances and learn to communicate their ideas to an audience better.
Drama is offered only at G3.
Where to take it
Students will translate theoretical knowledge in fundamentals of electricity, analogue electronics and digital electronics into the development of problem-solving and systems thinking skills through engineering design process. This will culminate in the creation of various functional prototypes aimed at solving real-life problems.
Electronics is offered only at G3.
Where to take it
Students will:
- Learn various aspects of Sports Science, including exercise physiology, biomechanics, sports psychology and motor learning and development.
- Understand how sociology relates to sports.
- Acquire the motor skills to perform physical activities proficiently.
- Evaluate and analyse physical performances and suggest improvements.
Exercise and Sports Science is offered only at G3.
Where to take it
MOE-ITE Applied Subjects
Students will learn basic knowledge and skills in electricity, electronics, mechanical design and intelligent control. They will learn to apply the technical knowledge and skills to design and build mobile robots to do specific tasks. They will learn to use mobile robot kits and engage in hands-on circuit design in the process.
Mobile Robotics is offered only at G1.
Where to take it
Students will learn how to operate in a retail business environment. This includes handling operations, selling products and services and interacting with customers.
Retail Operations is offered only at G1.
Where to take it
Students will learn core foundational concepts and principles to operate home automation systems. As the home automation devices and equipment are electrical, students will get foundational training in electrical circuits and technology. They will learn to use home automation kits and conventional lighting training kits in the process.
Smart Electrical Technology is offered only at G1.
