Realtek Semiconductor Corp., located in the Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park — Taiwan's "Silicon Valley" — began with a small group of young, devoted engineers in 1987. Over three decades, these young founding engineers built Realtek into one of the world's largest and most successful IC design houses, providing connectivity solutions in communications network, computer peripheral and multimedia. Realtek employs over 5000 people worldwide, of whom 86% work in research and development. Realtek has sales and R&D teams in China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, the United States, and Vietnam.

Established in 2013, Realtek Singapore Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Realtek Semiconductor Corporation, serves as the regional headquarter to extend Realtek's R&D capability by attracting talents around the region, and to deepen Realtek's presence and expand business in Southeast Asia. Realtek Singapore has over 140 employees, of which 90% are R&D engineer. Over 60% of Singapore employees joined the company as fresh graduate and mostly graduated from local universities. Realtek Singapore focuses on developing solutions for Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications such as smart home and smart cities, and enterprise wireless AP/routers.
