Both programmes offer the core curriculum that centres on Functional Academics, Life-Skills, Physical Education and Aesthetics. Within these core areas, subjects and programmes such as English, Mathematics, Life Skills, PE, Arts, IT, CCA and CCE are included. A customised, module-based curriculum for all subject areas, including CCA, is adopted to cater to the varied needs and learning abilities of pupils.
ASP has additional components of Play Skills and Communication Skills built into their curriculum.

Programmes
Integrated Programme (IP)
The IP is for students with MID, as well as students with both MID and mild ASD who have low support needs. The teacher to student ratio for the IP is 1:10.ASD Structured Programme (ASP)
The ASP is for students with MID and mild ASD who have moderate support needs. The teacher to student ratio for the ASP is 1: 4. The ASP prepares students to eventually transit into the school’s Integrated Programme.Both programmes offer the core curriculum that centres on Functional Academics, Life-Skills, Physical Education and Aesthetics. Chaoyang School adopts the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Framework to guide in the design of teaching approaches, resources and learning experiences to cater to the individual learning needs of all the students. It also harnesses technology to enhance students’ engagement in teaching and learning.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCA)
The school’s CCA programme provides a range of experiences for the students through exposure to meaningful and purposeful activities. The programme is offered to all Chaoyang students regardless of age or ability, and adopts a modular approach.
All students in the school are provided the opportunity to experience and try out different CCAs throughout their 6 years in the school.

Language Week is an annual event organized by the Literacy Department. Every year, it adopts a unique theme. Throughout the week, students learn and appreciate language through a series of activities that are current, relevant and engaging.
Language Week also serves as an avenue for the students to forge and build relationships with other members of the community. Examples of collaboration include:
Math and Science Fun Day
The Math and Science Fun Day is the initiative of the Numeracy & Science Department. Students get to visit various activity stations to try out games and activities which are designed to teach concepts from the curriculum.
For example, Giant Snakes and Ladders and Mazes required students to use their knowledge to solve puzzles and find out more about things around them. The objective is for students to learn Numeracy and Science concepts in an interactive and fun way.
Healthy Eating Programme
The Life Skills Department started the Healthy Eating Programme to encourage good healthy eating habits among students. It is a 6-week programme with the following objectives:

The school has a Visual Arts programme where students get to explore and use various media for art and craft. The school participates in external art competitions and has won several awards including:
Talent Development Programme
Chaoyang School offers a range of activities under the Talent Development Programme (TDP). Students showing promise are identified by the teachers and given extra coaching to realise their fullest potential. The TDP sessions are conducted outside of regular curricular time.

GetActive! Singapore Workout 2021 Schools Competition
Chaoyang School emerged as one of the top 3 winners for the SPED category for the GetActive! Singapore Workout Schools Competition 2021.

- Engagement with essential workers on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Singapore.
- Sharing sessions by foreign guest speakers on their native countries to give students a glimpse of life beyond Singapore.

- Share fun and delicious ways to eat vegetables as snacks.
- Demonstrate eating vegetables daily in school.
- Creating e-posters on the benefits of vegetables.
- Learning that vegetables can be eaten in a variety of delicious ways.
- Making vegetable dips and vegetarian pizza.
Visual Arts
The school has a Visual Arts programme where students get to explore and use various media for art and craft. The school participates in external art competitions and has won several awards including:
- Being one of the top 25 selected entries of the Singapore Youth Festival 2021 Celebrations Design Challenge.
- Being selected as one of the 21 National Day Parade 2021 Fun Pack designs.
- Paralym Art World Cup 2021.
- “See What I See” Art Competition 2020 organised by Very Special Arts Singapore (VSA, now known as ART:DIS).
- Lions Club Peace Poster Design Contest.

Awarded to schools in recognition of environmental outreach projects with the overall best performance in the 3Rs. - Vanda Miss Joaquim Award
